Interview

Your new single, ‘Reborn’ has recently been released on Extrema Global Music – congratulations! How did the idea to produce ‘Reborn’ come about? Was there a particular motivation or inspiration that was the source of this single?
Thank you!! Ha ha I’m going to get very deep with you…’Reborn’ is actually a very personal track for me, as my first original I wanted to express a certain feeling I’ve held onto for many years. A lot of people go through difficult times and quite a lot of hardship — I’ve never quite been able to express that moment of ‘light’ and ‘freedom’ into words, so it was only fitting I put it into music and let people feel that moment of being ‘Reborn’ for themselves.

A fan actually messaged me the other day and wrote “this tune teaches me how to go on and overcome adversity in my life” — I now feel accomplished that someone has connected with me, I guess that’s where my motivation to do this track came from and just to let people feel what I felt all those years ago.

‘Reborn’ has been receiving massive support from Aly & Fila, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Ferry Tayle & Manuel Le Saux – How does it feel to have support from big names in the scene?
Extremely overwhelming…or should I say Extrema-overwhelming? Ha! Bad Joke!

It really feels amazing to have these artists supporting me, especially my first original. I must admit, I did a happy dance each tweet I received when these artists played ‘Reborn’ on their radio shows! But it’s not only the artists, it’s the amount of positive and encouraging messages I’ve received from people all over the world!

Many artists would be lucky to have a mentor as great as Darren Porter – how has Darren helped you in your career?
Ah! Mr. Darren Porter! I have been extremely lucky to be able to learn so many things from the absolute genius himself. I don’t hide the fact he has been mentoring me for a while now but there’s only so much you can learn over Skype so, I was lucky enough that Darren cleared his schedule earlier this year and opened up his home in Germany where he resides with his beautiful girlfriend for one month. We sat in his studio each day, brushing up my skills and learnt new techniques. He really pushed me to my limits and still does and for that, I am so grateful! He is a huge inspiration to me and somebody I very much look up to. He has not only taught me a lot in production but also about the music industry.

How did you know that producing and DJing is something that you wanted to do? What gave you that push and drive to want to be heard by the world?
I’ve always loved music, it’s something that I have an extreme passion for. With DJing, I remember when I was 16 and I went under-age clubbing (we’ve pretty much all done it, ha ha!) and I saw a local female DJ on the decks — I turned to my friends and said “that’ll be me up there one-day!” — and that’s how I got into being a DJ.

Producing followed shortly after…let’s be honest, I wish I could sing  — because then I would most likely be a singer and tell my story that way, however, that    is definitely not going to happen because I have the worst voice in the world ha ha!

I have many stories to tell and discovering Trance music opened up my eyes to a whole new world. For me, it’s just about being heard — it doesn’t matter if it’s one, hundreds or thousands of people — if I can connect with someone on a personal level through my music, then that’s all that matters to me and that’s my push and drive to continue on with what I’m doing.

What do you feel sets you apart from other trance artists?
I am who I am, I do what I do and if that sets me apart in peoples eyes in some unique and special way, then that’s enough for me.

What’s the next move for you production-wise in 2015? Can we expect more singles, an album, or both?
You can definitely expect more originals and a few remixes from me very soon! An album is definitely something I would love to do in the future but not next year, I’ll get there!

How do you see the Australian trance scene continuing to evolve over the next decade and beyond?
With so much great new talent right in our backyards, I think trance in Australia will continue to boom even more! Also, more and more people are jumping into the Trance scene which is absolutely amazing to see. The boom has already started and I believe there is a lot more to come.

Are there any big tour dates that you’d like to share with us?
I’m supporting 4 Strings at Room 680 in Melbourne on January 2 and I’m also part of the Extrema Tour with Manuel Le Saux and Darren Porter — March 27 in Melbourne and there will be a few other announcements happening very shortly on where else i’ll be playing for the Extrema Tour. There’s also talks for returning overseas to tour! I’m really excited about it but can’t give out details just yet!
