Paul van Dyk reveals what you can expect from him at Dreamstate & It’s A Fine Day

Paul van Dyk fans rejoice!

The Godfather of Trance is just about to land in Australia, and he’s ready to take you on a mind-blowing journey.

Paul van Dyk has kept trance alive throughout the years and continues to mesmerise music lovers with his breathtaking sound and stunning performances.

He is truly an exceptional figure, for more than two decades, the world has known Paul van Dyk as one of Germany’s most successful musicians and as one of the ultimate superstars of trance – no trance fan should miss his upcoming sets at Dreamstate NYE Sydney and It’s A Fine Day NYD Melbourne.

Ahead of his highly anticipated shows, Trance Project caught up with the legend to talk all things Trance, new album and we find out what Aussie fans can expect from his sets. See the interview below.

We’re only just a few days away from your Aussie tour, what’s going through your mind right now and how excited are you to be back in Australia later this month?

I always have a lot of fun and it’s always amazing to be in Australia, so i’m really looking forward to it. And the other thing is, I’ve never celebrated New Year’s Eve in Australia and I know only those amazing pictures from CNN of how you guys have a great time and how everything looks beautiful and i’m just really happy to be a part of it this year.

2017 has been a massive year for you and Congratulations on the success of your new album ‘From Then On’. What was the mission you set out when completing this album?

One major element of the album, being the way it is, is that it’s not about having a mission. I had quite a drastic experience in 2016, having had an accident that was really life-changing. It kind of changed how i see the world, and things that have been relevant before are not so important now, and at the same time life in general is my biggest inspiration, so of course this album has some sort of a difference of life to it, but its not really a mission. The fact that the album is there, is already the biggest success because in the beginning of 2016, it didn’t look like that i would ever be able to make music, nonetheless to even be able to speak or walk, so to me this is the most important album, but it’s not done with the mission to show the world that this is how it should be.Β

What do you hope your fans get out of your new album?

I hope they enjoy it and that it puts a smile to their face, and that’s really more than enough i have to say. People enjoying it and having a good time listening to it everywhere including a club, that’s what i hope for.

The album features some of the most euphoric songs we’ve heard in a long time and amazing collaborations. Do you have a song that you are most proud of?

They are all equally important really, so i can’t really choose. Making music is one of the most fun things and of course doing it with the people that share the same passion for music and people that are friends is even more fun.

After being in the business for over two decades, how do you keep things fresh?

I don’t know, i’m not trying to be the trendy this or the trendy that. I’m an artist, i make music and that’s what i do.Β  If you try to be fresh, if you try to be this or that, then you’re never really authentic. I’m just the way i am, my music is just the way it is, and all i can actually do is offer my music and hope that people enjoy it. If they don’t, i would still make the same music because that’s me.

You’re hitting Dreamstate on NYE in SydneyΒ and It’s A Fine Day on NYD in Melbourne, and keeping with the New Year theme, do you have a New Years Resolution and can you tell us what it is?

Well i have one, but you never actually tell your New Years resolution to anyone, at least that’s how we do it in Germany, because if you wish for something and tell is to someone, it’s not going to come true, so yes i have one, but that’s something i keep close to me haha.

What can fans expect from all your sets in Australia?

I don’t know how many people are familiar with my sets, but i have controllers, keyboards and computers with me on stage to enable me to be really effective. Even when i play my classics like ‘For An Angel’, they sound different. I’m going to play obviously lots of music from my new album, ‘From Then On’, and i will also probably play some new stuff. All in all i have a very clear idea about the music that i want to play, and i’ll try to connect with the audience through the music, interact with them, and then we all have a great time i hope.

Do you have any exciting plans for 2018 or new music coming in the new year?Β

There’s definitely the plans of a new album in 2018, touring, and i’m still struggling from a few things from the accident so i’m still actually in rehabilitation mode, so i’m still trying to get better and trying my best to survive.Β

Do you have any final words for all your die-hard fans in Australia?

Well i’m really looking forward to be back and celebrate the New Year, i hope i can make this the best start to 2018!
