Meet the Aussie event crew redefining Sydney’s Trance & Psy-Trance scene

It’s time to get familiar with the new face of Sydney Trance.

Fly High Events at their massive Paradigm Sydney show.

Fulfilling the high demand for new clubbing and mid-scale event experiences, an Aussie crew has sprung up in Sydney and are on a mission to put the harbour city back on the Trance map.

With the debut of their immersive Hologram event concept at Home The Venue this Friday, there’s no better time to shine a light on the incredible local crew, Fly High Events.

Part of the new generation of event promoters willing to think outside the box, Fly High Events was started by Viraj Evans and a crew of friends each with their interests in different aspects of the scene.

Fly High Events has succeeded largely in part to its loyalty to remaining a completely unique experience, starting from the array of Trance and Psy-Trance talents booked to the immersive event concepts, live performances and audience they draw in.

“I was a regular punter who would attend both underground parties and big scale events. However, I did notice that Sydney was missing medium scale events which would cater to all audiences,” Viraj Evans told Trance Project in an exclusive interview.

They’ve quickly garnered a devout following by booking exquisite dancers, phenomenal live acts and providing mind-blowing production to compliment their stellar lineups that have included the likes of John O’Callaghan, Mandragora, Astrix, Sneijder, Factor B, Phaxe, Blastoyz, John 00 Fleming, Neelix, Cold Blue, Flow Theory, Liquid Soul, Shugz, Timelock, John Askew, Tetrameth, Unseen Dimensions, Will Atkinson, Ryanosaurus, Harmonic Rush, just to name a few.

Each event taps into a different energy – whether it be from Trance to Psy-Trance and even Electronica – in hopes of providing new experiences for the Sydney clubbing scene and to “educate people about music and expose them to new artists,” Viraj Evans says.

Once inside their event, it’s a free-for-all, with punters from all across the nation embraced into the welcoming arms of Fly High Events.

You won’t find the crew lingering backstage or on the side in a roped off VIP area, instead, they’re hovering amongst the amassed crowd, making sure their guests are comfortable and having the greatest experience. They even encourage their DJs to join the people in the crowd and that special interaction truly creates some of the most memorable moments for fans.

“The Trance community has always supported us in our vision and ideas. This gives us the confidence to push our boundaries and try something new, hopefully they come out to support us for Hologram as well,” he says.

Their forthcoming show this Friday at Home The Venue will feature epic multi-sensory holographic effects, along with a monstrous lineup of 20+ Trance and Psy-Trance acts across three stages. It will be an experience nothing Sydney has ever seen before at a large club show.

In addition to throwing their Hologram show, Fly High Events will also host a massive NYE 2019 party with Aly & Fila, Factor B, Gentech and Jordan Suckley at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, plus a huge lineup of events in 2020!

Interview with Viraj Evans from Fly High Events

How long have you been running Fly High Events and what inspired you to launch an events company?

Up until early 2016, I was a regular punter who would attend both underground parties and big scale events, however, I did notice that Sydney was missing medium scale events which would cater to all audiences.

Fly high Events which was established around 2016-2017 in Sydney, had the vision of not only bringing the concept of mid-scale events but also a whole new flavor of lineups and unique complementing venues, with all our events.

Our events were hosted on roof tops and harbour view venues to give our audience a unique trance experience. We partnered with Paradigm to bring in the first of its kind event with a mix of Trance and Psy-Trance artists. This was mainly to educate people about music and expose them to new artists.

What are you most excited about the launch of Hologram Sydney?

In essence, Hologram is a three-dimensional image formed by projection mapping. We are introducing this brand-new concept in Sydney which will be an audio-visual treat for our audience.

Hologram Sydney this year is based on the theme of Harmonic Frequencies. The audience will experience a unique holographic journey from beginning to end. The most exciting thing about this event is its production and the flow of music that we have planned. We have also produced each artist intro-tunes that will enhance this holographic journey for our audience.

What do you love most about Sydney’s Trance music scene?

The Trance community has always supported us in our vision and ideas. This gives us the confidence to push our boundaries and try something new. Hopefully they come out to support us for Hologram as well.

What does the future hold for Fly High Events – any hints at what you might be cooking up next for the Sydney Trance family?

We have a massive NYE 2019 show that we are hosting with the likes of Aly & Fila and many more. At this point I can only say that the audience should watch out the event page for a surprise announcement coming soon.

We are booked for events up until the end of June 2020. Personally, I am excited about the show we are doing in April 2020. It is by far the biggest lineup that we have brought to Sydney.

While we are going all out with our big events, we intend to stick to our roots and be personally connected to our audience by hosting club shows on a regular basis.

Do you have any final words for the Sydney Trance family?

I would like to thank the Sydney trance family for all their love and encouraging us to achieve our vision irrespective of the size of our events. We promise to bring a variety of new concepts in the future as well and would appreciate the trance community’s support.
