Aly & Fila on Melbourne’s trance scene and FSOE 400

Aussie fans are waiting in great anticipation for the Australian edition of FSOE 400.

In 2006 a journey began for Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila, when the ‘Future Sound of Egypt’ radio show was born. 400 Episodes later, the show is going stronger than ever. Having hosted four previous celebrations – 2015 sees Aly & Fila take their celebration to the next level – a massive world tour with events in Minsk, Guatemala, Buenos Aires, Prague, California, Tunisia, Poland, Mexico City, and have announced a special show at The Great Pyramids of Giza!

The trance legends, who recently topped Trance Podium’s Top 100 DJs of 2015 list, will also bring the show to Melbourne on Saturday August 8 at Festivall Hall – we caught up with the duo and fired away with questions on Melbourne’s trance scene and the success of FSOE.

We’re absolutely excited for your return back to Melbourne for FSOE 400! What do you look forward to each time you visit the city?

“The vibe, the city is really amazing.”

What do you love most about Melbourne’s trance scene?

“The crowd in Melbourne are great, always so responsive when we play there. Trance in Australia is really superb!”

The FSOE 400 world tour kicks off in California this August. With less than a month to go, what’s going through your mind right now?

“Excitement, buzz, but I’m also making sure everything is prepared. The shows always come around fast during the tour and before you know it, its over!”

Did you ever think you would reach 400 episodes of FSOE when you first started back in 2006?

“9 years is a long time for a weekly radio show and we are very proud that next year we celebrate 10 years of our Future Sound of Egypt radio show. We love doing the show and we are very happy to reach 400 episodes.”

Can you still remember the very first episode of FSOE and how you felt after it was broadcast?

“Yes like it was yesterday, a feeling of pure happiness and excitement. The start of a project is always exciting and its such a superb feeling when the project comes together.”

What does FSOE mean to you?

“An accumulation of things, pride and happiness at being able to sign some of the world’s best talent to our record label, and also being able to showcase producers worldwide via the weekly radio show. Also, pride of our FSOE celebrations each summer and reaching each milestone. The main thing is seeing the brand grow and seeing the fans support and celebrate FSOE with us.”

You recently premiered the ‘A New Age’ – the official anthem for FSOE 400 with Omar Sherif & Jonathan Carvajal. What inspired you to produce such an epic anthem with Omar and Jonathan?

“We are good friends with both artists and we had the idea to work on an anthem together, it all came together really well and we are very happy with the end product.”

Will there be any FSOE 400 anthem remixes?

 “Lets see!”

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened during your one of your sets?

“Torrential downpour of rain during our set in Colombia on an outdoor stage, never seen rain like it!”

Do you have an all-time favourite album?

There are many great albums, one of our favorites is Above & Beyond – Tri-State.”

Who inspired you the most when growing up?

“During the mid 1990s (Fila) use to travel to Europe a lot and bring back mix tapes of Paul Van Dyk. He really inspired us to become musicians, have a career in music and become DJ’s.”

Any last words to your thousands of fans in Australia?

“See you all very soon on 8th August at FSOE 400 at Festival Hall in Melbourne!”
