INTERVIEW

With the upcoming release of your third album, what is the story that you both want to tell with ‘The Other Shore’?
We’d been working on a lot of new material that we wanted to showcase to the world, and we felt the perfect way to do this was to release another artist album. We feel ‘The Other Shore’ shows a further 12 months of hard work, learning and maturity in our music.

Has the new album been influenced by anything − musically or culturally − that may surprise fans?
All three you mention inspire and influence us to make music.

Focusing on the vocal material – what are the main lyrical themes in ‘The Other Shore’?
Various tracks on the album have different meanings but in the title track, ‘The Other Shore’ with Aruna, it’s about going through dark times and reaching a place of happiness…the other shore.

It’s been about 2 months since ‘For All Time’ was released. How have the reactions been?
We are very happy with the reactions to For All Time! Jaren has an incredible voice. We’ve been playing the track throughout summer and the crowds have been singing along – it’s been great.

Which track on the album pushed you both out of your comfort zones the most?
Possibly the track with Seri‘Never Let Me Go’ and our original track, ‘Altitude Compensation’.

Since bursting into the international scene over a decade ago, how would you both describe the development of the ‘Aly & Fila sound’? What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from each other throughout the years?
We feel that over the last 10 years, we have matured as musicians and that can be heard in our tracks, but we have never strayed away from what we believe and love: uplifting and melodic trance.

Do you think this is a good time for trance music, overall? Where do you think the evolution of trance music will fall next?
We think now is a great time! Trance has always been there and always will be, the trance families are growing worldwide.

You’ve got some big gigs lined up in Australia this October – what can fans expect from your upcoming sets?
The Australian crowds are amazing, so full of energy; we are very excited to be back as part of The Other Shore Album Tour. The first show in Melbourne is extra special as it’s held on the same day the album is released.

Can we expect a remixes edition of ‘The Other Shore’?
2015!

Thank you Aly & Fila, we wish you all the very best with the new release and upcoming tour in Australia.
Thank you very much for the interview, see you soon!
