How Your Favourite Aussie DJ Got Their Name Part 2

Ever wonder how DJs come up with names?

Learn how some of your favourite Aussie DJs got their name.

Jericho Frequency (QLD)

Jericho Frequency is significant to me as it symbolises ‘walls’ in people’s life being broken down just like the city of Jericho’s walls were torn down from sound/frequencies in Biblical times.”

Trancendent (VIC)

“The name first came from a friend of mine who has a podcast called Transcend. At the time I was looking for a name, because I was just using Nick Fuller to start with, which a lot of people liked but it just didn’t feel right I guess, and ‘Transcend’ just happened to catch my ear, so I looked up similar words stemming from the original word and found Transcendent.

From the first time I heard it, it just felt right, I sat on it for a bit and thought up some other names but kept coming back to it, so I knew that it was for me. I then changed it to Trancendent to incorporate trance into the name as that’s the genre I mix!

There’s also another thing i really love about the name . . . Transcendent means “beyond or above the range of normal” or “physical human experience,” Which as a DJ is what I’m always pushing myself towards! It’s kind of like a motto to live by. Something to remind me to never give up, and to always strive to be above or beyond normal but not just with DJing, with everything I do in my life!”

D6 (SA)

“It all started in 2010 when a friend was messing around calling everyone by the first letter of their name and the number of letters in the name. He got to me and since that day that is what people jokingly called me.

A year later when Rob James from Fresh 927 picked up my Sleepless Nights mixes to air on Insomnia he asked me what my DJ name was, and at that time I had not even thought about it, the first thing that came to mind was D6, and that was that.”

ChaosX (WA)

“When I first started DJing a couple of years ago, I went by the name “DJ Chaos”, as I wanted my first name (Chao) included in my alias. It was made up on a whim, but after some time I decided I wanted something that sounded a bit more unique as I was really keen on making my mark in the Trance scene. And you know what they say . . . X marks the spot.”
